Hacker Evolution: Untold

Use your hacker skills to prevent computers from becoming the next dominant species on the planet, and clear your name.

When the number of computers in existence and their processing capacity exceeds that of all mankind, a point of technological singularity is encountered. A massive economic and systematic crisis hits the entire world. Nobody knows the exact cause, and all solutions to fix it, are failing. We are about to lose our position as a dominant specie on the planet, in favor of something we have created... computers. You play the role of Brian Spencer, a young computer programmer working for a company he started with a couple of friends, which has developed the technology from where it all started. When you are being framed for crime, it's up to you to prevent computers from becoming the next dominant specie, and clear your name, using your hacker skills. The concept behind Hacker Evolution: Untold is to create a game that challenges the gamers intelligence, attention and focus, creating a captivating mind game. Solve puzzles, examine code and bits of information, to help you achieve your objectives.

Introduction: This game is a special treat for me because it represented my childhood dream of becoming a person that is the main character in this game. What is it all about, here is an intro… There were many movies made right on this theme because as it seems it is becoming a fact that a threat from the AI and robotics is becoming more and more possible. Now how to prevent it, well every movie had its own way, with one turning the AI against itself, using EMP (electromagnetic pulse) or simply hit them with the biggest gun you have… Gameplay: Anyway the hero of our game had a bit different approach to the whole thing as he was prepared to be removed from the equation by being behind bars, that is being framed for committing a crime which he didn’t commit and in that way the AI has removed the only person who is aware of the threat above the man kind. The reason why he knows and nobody else knows is because he is the creator of the already mentioned software. The only way he can fight against it, is with the same way as the AI was created, by programming. So that’s where everything begins, with you entering the virtual world and laying down some serious programming skills to save the world. You play the role of Brian Spencer, the man who is the most responsible for all of this, as there were a couple of his friends who were helping him in this project. The game is split into ten levels that need to be cleared out to prevent the human race being knocked down from the first place of the food chain. The problem is, were are not food for them, but just a nuisance that needs to be ‘taken care of’. Fighting against the developed program means hacking, hacking and more hacking. The servers are the main secondary goal in the game, as that is their source of power, but also yours if you know what you are doing. You must hack a server, extract all of the information’s that are contained within it, and get out before being caught by anybody. As he is already ‘caught’ physically, for those who don’t know this, being caught in the virtual world is being located from where you are hacking, and that always means for every hacker, game over. Because this is the third installment of the game, if you are just starting to play the game, you have done it in the worst and best possible time. The reason why it is the worst is because the game difficulty has risen for a couple of levels and the content has been upgraded to a new level of gameplay. This is also the best possible time, as it has used the base structure of the game and continued where the second installment has stopped and done for the first installment…MADE IT BETTER! Think of it as the Operating System development that is currently happening in our world and is moving along in this game. Now before you start running away from continuing reading this review and playing the game, there won’t be any “Real” programming in this game, where you should enter lines and lines of algorithmic and programing language sequences. The best first step in the game or you won’t get anywhere is starting reading the FAQ of the game, extensively. This is under most be done if you are new to the game, while being a veteran of the game, means looking at a FAQ and scrolling down until you find something that you have forgotten or don’t understand. Couple of rows back, I have talked about the worst thing that could happen to a hacker and that is getting caught. To avoid such a thing, a simple solution is given to you, and that is using your money. But where do you get the money? Well the answer is probably already presumed by many, as if you are capable of creating a software that is able of eliminating the human race, a couple of bank accounts shouldn’t be that great of a concern. So how do you really get through the levels of hacking servers and earning money? Well one of the obstacles in the game is solving the variety of different puzzles, but the puzzles are so different that there are multiple choices to what do you want to solve. What I mean is, the path to solving your secondary goal that is your mission goal can be finished in more ways, as the game allows it. The content of the game is not linear from the beginning to the end, only on the beginning and the end and the rest is up to you to form to how you feel like it. An example of this is the game’s difficulty. If you select the Dynamical difficulty, the game will start to adapt to you and how well you perform in the missions before you. The better you become, the game becomes more and more hard. But to even the odds, you then use the money for other reasons, like upgrading your computer. This will be essential to your hacking skills, as it doesn’t matter always how good you are, if you don’t have proper support. There will be also some special kind of equipment that you can buy to boost your computer performance greatly, but such upgrades cost dearly. The game will be played mostly through 20 different commands that you will be using. Every one of them has its own function, and if you are new to this, then the help (FAQ) section of the game is just the right place for you to remind yourself of what command is there for you to use. Graphics and sound: What won me the most in this game and was final key element of loving the game, is the environment in which the game was made. First the green the graphical interface won’t be such surprising surroundings for the players who have played the predecessors. But the ones that have played part one, two and now three, will surely notice the improvement of the graphics from one release to another. As I said before, the game structure remained the same and it simply got better and better. For example the map of the game you will be using to locate different servers is now more ‘lively’, making very nice impression on you when you look at it. Another thing is the sound of the game. Maybe it is because I’m a bit nerdy myself, but techno and trance is simply my thing. Here it is the same… You won’t get the best releases of songs in the world, but the beat will do its thing and feel the at least a bit what I have saw in a couple of movies and experienced myself in few minor hackings, if you could even call them that! Enjoy the game, I know I did…
